ShoppingCurrency and Credit Cards: In Northern Cyprus, the unit of currency is Turkish Lira, and the exchange rate is subject to market fluctuations. We recommend carrying currencies such as British Pounds, US Dollars, Euros, which are widely accepted around the island.
Major international cards such as Visa, Mastercard and American Express are accepted in large hotels, restaurants and shops. The same applies to Traveler checks. We should note though that credit card charges are subject to additional bank charges.
There is no limit to the amount of foreign currency you can carry with you to Cyprus, but it would be a good idea to declare this during entry to the island. Departing visitors are only allowed to take up to 10.000 US Dollars or cash equivalent in other currencies, except by special permission.Buying If you are a souvenir shopper, you'll be pleased with local embroidery, lacework, sheepskin rugs and hand painted pottery. Other suggested values include leather ware and carpets which are imported from Turkey. Many small shops sell spectacles made in local villages, as well as tailor made garments. If you are into history, you will find numerous shops specializing in the history of Cyprus. Public Holidays (certain shops may be closed during these times) 1 January
